Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission Expands GameSense Responsible Gaming Across Province

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) has announced the province-wide rollout of GameSense, an acclaimed responsible gambling education program originally developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC).

Empowering Players with Knowledge and Practical Tools

GameSense departs from traditional punitive messaging by engaging players with positive, science-backed insights into how gambling games operate. Rather than focusing solely on problem gambling interventions, GameSense offers transparent education for all patrons regarding:

  • Random Number Generators (RNGs): Explaining the mathematical independence of each spin and dispelling persistent myths about "hot" or "cold" slot machines.
  • Cost of Play Calculations: Providing interactive tools that demonstrate average hourly expenditures based on game speed and denomination.
  • Time and Spending Limits: Encouraging players to establish pre-set financial and temporal boundaries before commencing play.

Dedicated GameSense Information Centres and Advisors

As part of the multi-million dollar provincial initiative, physical GameSense Information Centres (GSICs) staffed by trained independent specialists are being integrated into all 28 licensed casinos and racing entertainment centers across Alberta.

"GameSense is about keeping gambling what it should be: a fun, balanced form of leisure entertainment. By providing patrons with clear facts and supportive resources right on the casino floor, we empower informed decisions." — Bill Robinson, President & CEO of AGLC

The program also includes enhanced voluntary self-exclusion enrollment procedures, discreet referrals to professional counseling services, and mandatory responsible service training for all gaming floor employees.
